The exact order changes by project, but the dependencies do not: concealed work must be completed and inspected before it is covered, and fabricated items require verified dimensions.
Before demolition
- Finalize drawings and appliance specifications.
- Confirm permits and utility shutoffs.
- Protect adjacent rooms and establish dust control.
- Identify salvage, donation and disposal routes.
- Confirm hazardous-material testing where appropriate.
- Verify long-lead products and temporary-kitchen arrangements.
Open, inspect and rough in
After controlled demolition, verify framing, subfloor, plumbing, wiring and ventilation. Complete approved repairs and rough-ins before closing walls. Book required inspections at the correct stages.
Close and finish the shell
Insulation, drywall, priming, subfloor correction and flooring sequence depend on the cabinet and floor system. Confirm whether cabinets sit on finished flooring and how appliance openings maintain required height.
Cabinets before countertop fabrication
Set and level cabinets, verify panels and supports, then template fabricated countertops. The sink, faucet and cooktop should be available or fully specified for cutouts.
Finish, test and document
Complete backsplash, plumbing connections, electrical devices, appliances, trim and touch-ups. Test leaks, drawers, doors, lights, ventilation and appliances before the final payment milestone.
