Kitchen Paint, Colour and Finish Planning

Use paint, sheen, cabinet colour, metal finishes and samples to refresh a kitchen without creating an overcomplicated palette.

Paint is one of the least disruptive changes and can make existing cabinets, counters and flooring feel more intentional.

Work from fixed materials

Begin with the countertop, floor and any cabinet finish that will remain. Pull colours from those materials rather than choosing an isolated paint chip first.

Test large samples in the room

Light direction, under-cabinet LEDs and surrounding colours can shift undertones. Move samples to several walls and view them over multiple days.

Choose sheen by surface and preparation

Higher sheen can be easier to clean but reveals defects. Cabinet painting needs much more preparation and product compatibility than ordinary wall painting.

Limit competing finishes

Two coordinated metal finishes can work, but repeating every showroom trend at once makes later replacements harder. Use the finish with the fewest future constraints for permanent items.
