Protect clear floor area
Avoid oversized islands, deep freestanding storage and door swings that consume the centre of the room. A narrow cart may be more useful than a fixed island when it can be moved.
Use height carefully
Tall cabinets can add storage, but the upper shelves should hold infrequently used items and remain safely accessible. Bring everyday tools into drawers, pullouts and lower shelves.
Choose appliances by use
A counter-depth refrigerator, compact dishwasher or smaller range can free circulation, but only when capacity still fits the household. Measure door openings and ventilation requirements.
Increase visual continuity
Consistent cabinet colour, fewer abrupt material changes and good under-cabinet lighting can make a small room feel calmer. Reflective does not need to mean glossy everywhere.
